21st Sculpture Festival Knokke-Heist

The sculpture walk Sculpture Link Knokke-Heist will be organized for the 21st time within the context of Art Nocturne Knocke.  Several sculptures will lead the spectator from the promenade in Het Zoute and Heist West along Hotel La Réserve and the Zegemeer lake to the CC Scharpoord park.  Thanks to this year's cooperation with d’Haudrecy Art Gallery Knokke-Zoute with Phil Billen and Bont Art Köln with Marco Di Piazza, this annual artistic event includes some 20 sculptures.

The art universe of Phil Billen is all about the sea:  ships, bathers, seamen, mermaids, packet boats, dreams about travel… As a child he spent his holidays at the North Sea.  His sculptures are not monoliths, they capture the space around them, they rise up to the sky or appear to walk on the ground between two lanes, they melt into one another as far as you can see.  He anchors the ship in the city, in an ocean of plants, and invites passers-by to travel. For the sculpture walk on the promenade Phil Billen has created new monumental works around the theme ‘Passion for the sea".

Marco Di Piazza was born in Rome and grew up in Tuscany.  The son of an artist and a philosopher, Marco studied art and architecture in Florence.  After years of experience and practice with stone and bronze, he started creating his iron and stainless steel sculptures, which arise out of the transformation of his two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional objects. He already participated in the prestigious Venice Biennial of 2011. His works can be found in private and public collections in more than 20 countries and can be admired this summer along the cultural axis of Knokke, starting on the promenade and taking you along the Casino and Hotel La Réserve to the Scharpoord cultural centre on the banks of the Zegemeer lake.

Sculpture Link will take place from 17 June to 17 August 2014.

Art Nocturne Knocke
