Over 200,000 children’s self-portraits form a giant image of HM The Queen on the frontage of Buckingham Palace

From 19–21 April, Buckingham Palace was lit up by thousands of self portraits, by children from across the UK, projected on to the façade of the palace to form a montage image of HM The Queen. Launched on Thursday, 19 April at 8.30pm by Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton, The ‘Face Britain’ projectionscelebrated the nation’s children and young people in the lead up to HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, The London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Face Britain is an arts project created by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts. Across the UK children aged 4-16 years of age were invited to produce their own self-portraits, to explore their creativity, their own identity and place in history as the 2012 generation. Portraits at all levels of skill, and in any medium were accepted, including drawing, textiles, 3D, painting, graphics, and photography.
