The Royal Academy's summer party starts the London Season

Wednesday 4 June 2014, 7 – 9.30p.m.

Sponsored by Insight Investment

The Royal Academy of Arts will host its annual Summer Exhibition Preview Party on 4 June 2014. Marking the official opening of the Summer Exhibition, traditionally the start of the British social ‘season’, the event serves as one of the highlights of the London social calendar. Cultural and creative leaders as well as famous faces from across the worlds of art, film, fashion and music are set to attend. Guests will be presented with an exclusive opportunity to preview and purchase art works from the show before the official Buyers Day, with proceeds raised from the sales of tickets and artworks going directly towards the Royal Academy’s exhibitions and schools programme.

This year’s event will be co-chaired by British artist Tracey Emin RA and GQ editor Dylan Jones, with support from an influential committee including: Alexa Chung, David and Catherine Bailey, Simon and Yasmin Le Bon, Thomas Heatherwick RA Elect, Anya Hindmarch, Grayson Perry RA, Eddie Redmayne, Sir David Tang, Douglas Booth, Damian Lewis and Fergus Henderson.

Guests will enter through the Annenberg courtyard where the The Kaiser Chiefs will later bring the summer’s evening to a spectacular finish with an open-air performance.

The Summer Exhibition is the world’s largest open-submission contemporary art exhibition, showcasing a variety of artworks by both renowned and undiscovered artists, often curated alongside each other. The hanging committee led by Hughie O’Donoghue, coordinator of the Summer Exhibition 2014, have made a selection of 1,200 works from over 12,000 submissions. The pieces are hugely diverse in medium, ranging from painting and printmaking to sculpture, architecture and film.

For the first time, the Royal Academy will be hosting an official ‘after’ party at the Academician’s Room in the Keeper’s House, which opened its doors to artists and art lovers alike in September 2013 following extensive renovation. 100 VIP ticket holders will enjoy Laurent-Perrier Champagne in this fantastic new social space at the Royal Academy.
