Viking hordes about to depart - don't miss the longboat!

— June 2014

Associated media

Hiddensee Hoard. Hoard of 14 filigree pendants, spacers, brooch & neck-ring, probably made in Denmark, late 10th century. Neuendorf/Hiddensee, Rügen, Germany. Gold © Jutta Grudziecki, Kulturhistorisches Museum der Hansestadt Stralsund

Despite its flaws, the British Museum's 'Vikings: Life and Legend' exhibition is well worth a visit - but there is very little time left as  this Sunday, 22 June, is the final day. Truly beautiful jewellery and other evidence of peaceful and indeed civilized existence and widespread trade give a different view of a race often portrayed merely as violent marauders.

See Jeannie Labno's review in April Cassone – then go and make up your own mind, but don't miss it!
