James Capper demonstration at CASS, Goodwood, UK

The artist James Capper will be visiting The Cass Sculpture Foundation (CASS) to demonstrate his new commission GREENHORN .

GREENHORN is the first work in a new series of James Capper’s Material Handling division, so called because of the way in which the machinery interacts with the environment. When activated, this hydraulic machine collects fallen trees from the surrounding woodland and re-positions them in precise formations on the ground. Partially inspired by the 1970s land artists, who used earth-moving equipment to create sculpture deriving from the landscape.  GREENHORN effectively builds an ‘installation’ out of the natural elements in its surrounding environment.
