Happy Christmas to all our readers

In this issue, as we approach the Christmas holiday, we have tried to include even more articles and book reviews; a real Christmas treat. Looking for presents? Find them among our book reviews or give a subscription to Cassone. And if you hate Christmas, let us distract you.

For those who look forward to Christmas, we have Amy Sargent’s report on a ‘digital painting’ of the Nativity, now showing at London’s Covent Garden. If you are looking for presents, what about Katie Campbell’s selection of books on garden design and gardens in art? Searching for some good books as presents for the art lovers amongst your friends and family? Consider our crop of books on David Hockney, Marc Chagall, the Empress Eugénie, the people who brought us the Renaissance, or a guide to getting involved in the art market, among others. Find out how Polaroid has made a comeback in the digital age, or settle down to a nice cup of tea and a cake – superbly photographed, of course. We have more articles and reviews to come this month, so don’t forget to revisit Cassone over the next couple of weeks.

Enough of Christmas? Join Jenny Kingsley on a visit to Monk’s House in Sussex and read about the Omega Workshop, and or see what she has discovered about the artistry once involved in making keyboard musical instruments. Jeff Fendall has visited the Watts Gallery and chapel at Compton, in Surrey, and seen Rodin’s once-scandalous Kiss at Turner Contemporary. High above the streets of New York, Victoria Keller explores the city’s newest park. We have two interviews for you, one with Mike Nicholson, an artist, illustrator, lecturer and successful self-publisher of ‘zines’ or mini-magazines, the other with Roger Thorp, publishing director of Tate Publishing which is 100 years old this year.

There is something for every art lover in December Cassone – and, of course, you have Our News pages and all our Archive to explore for the first time, or revisit. With Cassone, you never lose a past issue!

Need help? Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions  and if you need further assistance, don't hesitate to use the Contact us button at the foot of every page of the magazine.
